Theories

1.) Living foods for your living body
Our bodies are made up of billions of beautiful living, thriving and circulating cells, carrying oxygen to our organs and through out our bodies, constantly regenerating and keeping us living and breathing, so it makes sense that we should feed this living organisms that compose our vibrant bodies LIVING FOODS. Living foods contain all of the naturally occurring enzymes required for digestion, and when you are consuming foods that come with their own built in digestion tools, that leaves more energy for your body to complete the duties of which daily life is required, such as the break down and rebuilding of new cells and blood, healing of any viruses or immune issues, flushing of toxins through the lymph nodes and elimination sites and retaining general homeostasis, all of which require  enzymes to achieve. Digestion and the creation of enzymes takes the most energy to complete out of any process in the body, consuming a SAD (Standard American Diet) consisting of mainly cooked, dead food and refined sugars/carbohydrates, keeps your body in a constant state of stress and disruption, leaving little to no time for your body to take care of it’s daily duties just to remain healthy and strong…it is no wonder we are a country filled with overweight, sick and depressed human beings, the food we are consuming and mass producing to ‘fuel’ ourselves from one day to the next is just filling the void and doing nothing for us on a level of nutrition! The solution to this problem is simple, can be done by anyone, meat eaters and vegetarians/vegans alike, and is summed up in one sentence…Eat more living food than cooked food. There it is, simple as that. But what is living food you ask? Living food is any food in its raw state; fresh, organic fruits and vegetables and their juices, soaked nuts and seeds, all things green and leafy to name a few! Think of the produce section of your grocery store as your raw food wonderland and go crazy. Simply by filling half of your plate or beginning each meal with something alive and glowing like a raw salad will do wonders for your overall health and quality of life. Fresh fruit smoothies or green juices first thing in the morning are a great way to make the first bit of nourishment you give your living self something equally as alive and beautiful, setting you up for a great day filled with alkalinity.

2.) Factory farmed meat
Factory farming accounts for 37% of  the worlds yearly methane (CH4) emissions. Methane has more than 20x the the global warming potential of C02. The use of fossil fuel on farms to grow feed and to raise land animals for food emits 90 billion TONS of C02 worldwide every year…not only is the production of feedlot meat bad for our environment, it is equally as detrimental to our health. Animal protein is incredibly hard for the body to break down and digest, (no matter HOW long we’ve been consuming it) and digestion is one of the biggest stressors we inflict on our systems day to day. A person absolutely cannot gain a perfectly functioning immune system, boundless energy and optimal health while still consuming animal proteins. The digestive tract of a typical carnivorous animal is 3-5 feet in length, allowing digested meat to pass quickly through the intestines and avoid the otherwise inevitable rotting of said consumed flesh. The human digestive tract? Up to 32 feet in length…and remember, our bodies are consistently running around 98.6 degrees, which is a perfect environment to promote the fermentation of hard to digest animal proteins as they attempt to pass through our GI tract. Along with that, meat and dairy are very Acidic, the opposite being greens, veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds which are Alkaline foods. As you may or may not know, our bodies are constantly striving to keep an Alkaline PH level in order to maintain homeostasis and health, now if you could avoid eating things that force your body to leech Alkalinity from other well built sources in your body (such as your bones) in order to just break down these certain foods, wouldn’t you? There are plenty of other beneficial and more bioavailable sources of protein,  which deem the practice of consuming animal products unnecessary to support human life. Now that we’ve talked about how the environment and our health is affected by meat products, lets talk about how it effects the animals, shall we? Now, I’m not going to jump up on my soap box here and give you the business, but I do feel strongly about educating the public on what they are very likely unaware they are supporting by consuming animal products…as the famous quote says, “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would become Vegetarian.” And like I mentioned before, there are PLENTY of quality sources of plant based proteins that support our bodies, promote health gained and sickness lost, and support the environment, making the consumption of animal products a conscious, selfish choice to advocate the unnecessary slaughtering of animals for the pure pleasure of our tastes buds. And on a side note, if you’re one of those people who just ‘loves meat’ too much to give it up, if the only way you were able to eat meat from this day forward was to have it boiled in water and unseasoned, do you think you would still ‘love’ it? The enjoyment of meat is about the seasoning and added flavor, raw meat on it’s own has absolutely no particular flavor, besides perhaps a metallic taste due to the blood of the animal remaining in the muscle tissue. Learning to cook delicious plant strong meals opens up a whole new world of flavor and nutrition that until you experience it you could never imagine…Now, rather than gruesomely depicting what goes on in factory farms and slaughter houses across the country, I urge you to watch  video, even just for 10 minutes, and educated yourself on what you are supporting.

3.) Dairy
Not only are we (the human species) the only mammal to consume dairy past the point of infancy, but dairy is a scary thing these days. The standards for a typical commercial dairy farm aren’t very appetizing, cows are in cramped stalls, knee deep in their own waste with a pump attached to their udders for the majority of their lives. As far as Organic milk and dairy products go, the term ‘organic’ refers to the cows feed, grown or fertilized with out any harmful pesticides, also the cows producing organic milk have not been treated with Bovine Growth Hormone nor antibiotics. So yeah, Organic is a better option for those of us who actually TOLERATE dairy. And that is all the body can do as far as pasteurized dairy consumption goes, tolerate it. You could be drinking a gallon of milk per day & slamming Yo-plait like it’s your job with out realizing how ill suited it is to your system. With out a proper 30 day elimination of all things dairy, you have no way of knowing or making the connections linking your lactose aversion symptoms to dairy consumption. And seeing as 65% of the population are unknowingly lactose intolerant, it might do you serious justice to see where you fall.
Aside from dairy being a sketchy business, Calcium is a mineral, which means it needs an alkaline environment to be absorbed by the body…here’s the catch, milk/dairy is acidic. So in order to reclaim homeostasis, the body will search for anything with an alkaline PH to level out the ratios, and if you haven’t consumed any Alkaline containing foods alongside your dairy, the body will resort to it’s biggest stores of calcium, your bones. Catch 22 anyone? Research shows that the body is much more adapt to the absorption of calcium through alkaline foods such as; flax, leafy vegetables like kale, spinach, broccoli, brazil nuts, walnuts, pecans, seeds, homemade bone broths and fish like salmon, sardines, mackerel etc. A good fish oil is a must! You don’t need huge amounts of calcium everyday, even if you consume relatively small amounts of green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds and fish, you will be consuming MORE than enough calcium for the body to run effectively.

4.) Grains
All grains are coated with naturally occurring Lectins, which are a defense against predators. When traditional and gluten containing grains are consumed, these lectins cause irritation and inflammation of the Gastrointestinal tract, leading to a host of auto-immune diseases, poor digestion and general discomfort. But fear not, there is a way to lessen the load and reap the plentiful benefits, vitamins and minerals that these grains contain. But not all grains are created equal, the grains I deem as beneficial to the human diet are the ancient, protein rich and naturally gluten free pseudo grains such as: Quinoa, Buckwheat, Amaranth, Millet, Lentils and Brown or Wild rice. Leave gluten laden grains such as; Wheat, Barley, Rye, Spelt, Semolina, Couscous, Seitan, Farina and Cake Flour in the dust, not everyone has Celiacs Disease but the irritant in wheat gluten is detrimental to everyone who ingests it, causing the aforementioned symptoms of traditionally prepared grain. To properly prepare our safe pseudo grains, a soaking and sprouting process is required, consisting of soaking raw grains for a period of time in water, and intermittently rinsing and re-draining until the vitamin and mineral containing germ or  ‘sprout’ has blossomed through the grain like a little leaf, allowing for easier digestion and breakdown of the grain and making its nutrition more available for absorption. Legumes such as; Black, Navy, Pinto, Lima and Kidney beans, as well as chickpeas can be treated similarly by soaking overnight the day before preparation in a bowl of water with a thumb sized piece of Kombu seaweed. While Legumes technically do not sprout, soaking them can greatly reduce their gaseous properties and ease digestion.

5.) Fats
Small amounts of raw cold pressed oils like Olive, Hemp, Pumpkin Seed and Coconut as well as organic fats such as raw nuts/seeds, flax, chia, avocados and coconut are fantastic places to get this healthy necessity. Essential vitamins A,D,K and E are all fat soluble, meaning they can only be absorbed, transported and digested in conjunction with dietary fats. Certain essential nutrients cannot be produced by the body left to it’s own devices, thusly we must ingest them through dietary fatty acids to meet our bodies required amounts, EPA and DHA are just two examples. But that doesn’t mean we can go crazy ingesting all the healthy fats we desire, there is still a limit to which you should adhere to, to allow for healthy blood sugar regulation. Too much fat in the blood stream inhibits insulin receptor sites, and when too much fat is consumed in conjunction with carbs, the glucose molecules have a hard time reaching your awaiting cells, resulting in longer periods of elevated blood sugar. So in order to be able to fuel ourselves properly with the carbohydrates our bodies crave with out issue, we must be sure to keep out dietary fat intake no more than 18-30% of daily calories.

    1. Thanks for catching that for me! I reordered things and must have forgotten to switch the numbers when I copied and pasted 🙂
